Hello, I am 31 years old and I have been in risperdal since I was 26.
I have gained a lot … I am hungry at all times and I smoke a lot but I try not to smoke more than 25 cigarettes per day.
my psychiatrist has told me to change my risperdal for abilify
is it good medicine? calm those urges to eat and smoke in quantity?
It improved my negative symptoms. As for eating it can cause binge eating rarely. Watchout for addiction and hypersexuality. I would recommend Vraylar over Abilify and Rexulti. Vraylar has no risk for addiction and hypersexuality. I had those side effects and some users here had gambling and risk taking issues from Abilify, but these side effects aren’t common.
Did not help me much with hunger and not at all with ciggies. I read somewhere that estimated 75% of Sza patients smoke, so I’m not looking to stop that any time soon.
Like Aziz, I would suggest Vraylar as I have been on it for a month now. Its different, and the constant hunger is much lessened, but the smoking is still an issue. For me, the hunger and the weight gain is huge (as I am huge for someone who is 5’6"). Its not helping much with symptoms really and has destroyed my sleep schedule (maybe), but its all in all the best I have had so far on this magical journey over the last year.
I don’t know if it’s the abilify or it is something else. But sleep is hard for me. And addictive personality is definitely not helped by abilify.
I smoke upto sixty to eighty a day. I’ve bought it down recently but I also miss doses so that might be helping me if it is the abilify that it causes addiction.
But don’t take my word for it.
It is in my opinion a very good medication for sz/schizophrenia.
