A transformation later in life

I underwent a kind of amazing transformation later in life that entailed changing the medication I was taking, learning about sz and applying wellness tools. From 1980 to 2004 I was taking Haldol. Then in 2004 I changed to Abilify. This medication had a positive effect on me and my recovery started. In 1980 I was 22 and in 2004 I was 46. At 46 I went back in the Behavioral Health Unit to be watched closely to make sure the med change would be positive. It was. I’ve learned as much as I can about sz since then. Also, I’ve used my wellness tools to manage the symptoms of sz. For example, I love to dance and listen to music. I also love to journal and exercise to continue on the road of the recovery process. What do you do to manage your symptoms?

Meds don’t help
I pace like a mf around the house 25k steps a day

When I was young, I was simply too sick from sz/sza to put any wellness tools into practice. It wasn’t until I was placed on a three AP combo that I was able to do so. I now practice piano, yoga, study Spanish, volunteer, travel, read, pray, attend cultural events and talk to friends and family to stay as well as possible.

25k steps means 10-12 miles, that’s absolutely crazy!

@simpjeff1 have you been able to hold down a job after switching to abilify?

I work part-time but it isn’t easy, some days I feel like giving up…

Me too. I feel like just throwing in the towel. But I try to push on.
