Diagnosed with SZ in 1980
Told to take Haldol
It zombied me out
They said it alright
You have Sz
I still didn’t feel alright but they said it was the Sz
I didn’t agree so I stopped taking it
Ended up back in the hospital and tried Abiify
Recovery began its process
I began to feel human again
I started work part time
Began to feel independent and confident again
Went back to work full time
Finally had some money in my pocket
Recovery process rocks!

Ain’t life full of surprises, now it feels like I have lived a perfect life.
Right on! Way to go!
That is awesome @simpjeff1, what are your aspirations for the rest of your life?
Wonderful story!! Good for you!!
Man, i love that, i am so happy for you, it has been my dream to get a nice job, i am pretty high functioning i thought but work was eluded me as of yet.
Go for it dude! Get that job! Gives you a sense of purpose everyday! Take care!
I have been volunteering a lot and i’m burnt out a lot now but there is a charity nearby that i want to work for as a support group ![]()
Haldol is bad medication
abilify is better
Yes, Haldol is a major tranquilizer.
I’ll continue to work as a peer as long as I can. I’ll need the money and i enjoy the work. I live in San Diego so everything is very expensive. I have a great life with the company of my wife. Money is tight but we all could use more money and I try nit to compare myself with the plight of others.
Thanks for sharing your story @simpjeff1. I was in the same situation as you and you continually show me a way. I have so much fear in life and you continue to give me courage.
Thanks dude! Keep moving forward! Life can be such a challenge fit those of us diagnosed with sz. Stress has to be managed and meds usually have be taken to start with. I’ve found work to be a powerful part of my recovery.
Go get um dude!
Do you get any side effects from abilify?
I’ve put in a lot of weight with Abilify. I weigh 317 when a good weight fit me is 195. I’m not sure if the Abilify caused an increase in appetite or I just have bad eating habits and too much inactivity. We’re all different and have different metabolisms and brain structures so what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work in the same way for another. Good luck!
