A Randomized Controlled Trial of N-Acetylcysteine in Clozapine-Resistant schizophrenia

The Bottom Line

This study did not support the efficacy of NAC for negative symptoms in clozapine-resistant patients with schizophrenia.

I think this study has already been mentioned in the forum here.
And well, a negative result is still good, it helps direct efforts to more fruitful endeavours.
If a patient does not respond to clozapine, which is the most powerful drug available, there’s a high chance that he will not respond to a mild experimental add-on. But it was worth a try.

At least the side effect profile did not differ from the placebo group, indicating that taking large doses of NAC might be safe.

There’s hope that a combination of NAC and glycine might work stronger, I posted a link to a recent study in the forum yesterday. Unfortunately, that study was tiny, but it’s still interesting.

I have been training aways my negs over the past couple of years. Reading aloud from a book to weaken the alogia, singing karaoke to reverse the lack of expressiveness, copying emojies to reverse the lack of facial expressions, 5 minutes of on-the-spot dancing and gyrations to reverse the akinesia. Doing these daily in order to strengthen the areas of the brain that control these functions, and it seems to have largely worked according to plan.
