A ramble about my latest thing to look forward to in life

You have a very interesting and educational hobby. I have never heard of anybody raising turtles. When I was 15 I raised butterflies and moths from caterpillars. It was fun and I still have those butterflies and moths, 34 years ago.

Is this the kind of thing you’re aiming for?

Yeah something like that, little bigger, and I’d like to house 3-4 toads, preferably females but won’t be picky if I can find some, period. It looks like that kid has a vivarium which is what I wanted (actual living plants and whatnot, little ecosystem in a tub/tank), but I think I have to settle for fake for now. I’m planning to do the soaking dish in the middle, with some smooth river stones in it for steps, then a couple large smooth stones if they want to burrow next to something solid, and then on either end a fake plant that provides cover foliage so they can hide/burrow under it. If there is still room and it reasonably fits maybe this old ceramic pitcher I found from my childhood, turned on its side as a cave, but not sure yet if it would fit. Gonna do potting soil and eco earth mixed for substrate, should be soft and clumpy for them.

But yeah there is this whole thing, my people lol, we’re these people out there trying to keep weird pets and build makeshift habitats. There are some impressive kids on YouTube I’ve seen. Some that are just plain cute, this little kid is adorable, nasal voice and instructing on male vs female toads:

I hope there’ll be enough room! The person in that video only seemed to have one toad. What if they all want to use their cave at the same time?

That’s part of why I want to use foliage cover instead of cave(s). I don’t have a cave structure that is shaped and sized properly for the container that would allow 3+ toads in it, and I don’t want any ā€œleft outā€ lol. So I’m going to do fake plants with foliage spread out and hanging over, so they can all burrow in the substrate under that.

Ah! Very clever! Like I said, you seem to know what you’re doing

Sounds right. It might be a sub species. It’s pretty common where I live.

The eco earth shows up today, finally get to build the habitat today, won’t be anything impressive, it’s a budget habitat for sure, but I’m excited.
