A poem for my dad

There are too many things
I’ve left unsaid
But I hope
You saw my heart
And the words written there

I remember how my eyes saw you
Looking up at you
Thinking you were bigger than life
Never fearing
Always safe, cared for, loved

Even through the dark years
When I was a shadow
You always had a light
That showed me
I was not alone
Always safe, cared for, loved

The faith, the strength
Shining bright blue
When your gaze fell on me
Like a beacon it called
Guiding me
Always safe, cared for, loved

Your lips may quiver
Your face thin and still
Your hands worn from the years
But I see the light
Still glimmering in your eyes

And I feel
Safe, cared for, loved

The light may have left
Those eyes that gave me peace
But my heart holds on
To the photograph
Stamped onto my mind
Reminding me
I’m safe
I’m cared for
I’m loved

I love you
Enjoy heaven

Nice! Keep those fond memories of your dad. He was a rarity.

I dislike poetry, but I appreciate the sentiment. There were so many things I wished I would have said to my dad before he died. I will always regret not saying them.
