NYC mayor allowing first responders to involuntarily commit homeless people. Wow
Mental health professionals are questioning it. “We are defaulting to an extreme that takes away basic human rights,” Matt Kudish, CEO of the New York chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, said in a statement after Adams’ announcement.
Surely this will go over well in helping people seek ongoing treatment for their illness.
“Cleaning up New York City— one bum at a time.”
I’d like to add that the homeless people here are not the issue— it’s the state and country’s failure to serve all segments of a population: Quality social services, quality help with housing, quality treatment programs for mental illness and comorbidities— just to name a few ideas.
Seems like Mayor Adams has a stake in the Revolving Door industry.
I might move to NYC just to spite them
I have been to NYC once. I’m not planning on doing that again. The city on the outside was bad enough. I can only imagine what being sent to Bellvue would be like.
