A cold...grandmothers advice?

Im frustrated. I have a cold/flu. My nose is running, my eyes tear, my throat and head hurts, im tired and overall just meh and cant think and barely speak.

Besides just wanting to whine about it for a bit (sorry :)), i wondered if anyone had some oldfashioned grandmothers fix for my cold. Im always getting annoyed with myself for not being able to do things. How do i chase it away fast and naturally?

I cant google on this phone, so you are my only hope.

Perhaps other cultures have different tips and tricks for this!

This stuff is a lifesaver to me.

Honey and lemon in warm water twice a day. Cinnamon in tea helps as well.
They are all antibacterial and will shorten the span of the cold

Hmm…thanks @FatMama! I have honey! And cinnamon. Might get some lemon tomorrow.

@Ninjastar thanks…Do you know what herbal tea is in it? We have this shop with herbs and teas, they might have something like this.

Ah oil of oregano good thing to ask for at the herbalist store. They surely have that.

sipping hot tea with loads of honey

Take echinacea. It shortens the duration of the cold. Also, antibacterial anything won’t help a cold because a cold is a virus, not a bacteria

In Scotland folk have a thing called a hot toddy. But that has alcohol in it

I suck on jolly ranchers when I have a sore throat. I also eat chicken noodle soup and maybe some crackers. They also make this spray that numbs your throat a bit so it doesn’t hurt as badly. Also, if it hurts to drink water, mix some in with some orange juice or lemonade so you don’t get dehydrated.

Ah! @jukebox, I had no tequila, but tried a glass of liquor just in case (just one, i have all sorts of issues but not with alcohol, so it is okay).

@Sardonic, what are jolly ranchers? Real chicken soup sounds great, that must work. See if i still have some in the freezer.

@anon94176359 what is of made of, hot toddy?

@LilyoftheValley, ah echinacea, that i heard of! On my list for the herbalist. Too bad about the antibacterial stuff…must have antivirals then. Perhaps my cure-all saffron might work, i think it has antiviral proporties.

Hmmm…or I should just stop the whining, lie in bed and wait for it to go away.

I like fire cider. It’s a mix of horseradish, ginger, garlic, rosemary all covered with apple cider vinegar and left to sit for a month.

My other favorite remedy is honey, lemon, and a shot of whisky.

Non-alcoholic drink- hot lemonade with a few squirts of hot sauce. Mix it good and sip. Cayenne is known for antiviral activity.

Hope you feel better!
