Standard meditation is not exactly my cup of tea. I prefer focusing on an activity that challenges my mind and trying to avoid parasite thoughts while doing said activity.
Have you tried meditation? How did it help you? (if at all)

I do deep breathing and mindfulness
It helps manage anxiety and reduce stress
Calming
I’ve tried doing a few different types of Buddhist meditation (including mindfulness) but my mind is too distracted by intrusive/racing thoughts… I just can’t concentrate on the meditation.
It’s helped me a lot. The key is to observe but not interact. So if an intrusive thought comes by acknowledge it and move on don’t dwell on it.
@fingolfin, do you experience those same intrusive thoughts while exercising or listening to music that you love? I find these activities to be really therapeutic too. Maybe for you they could work where standard meditation didn’t.
Ok, but life demands some extra. There for India returned to Hinduism after a short period of Buddhism.
I watched awesome video on meditation. It said “some people claim they can’t meditate because they can’t clear their minds…well guess what, if you can clear your mind your either enlightened…congratulations…or you’re dead…so very sorry”. Thought that was funny . He also said 100 years ago if you told someone to run they’d say “who’s chasing me” and now science and health experts say it’s necessary to excercise. They said meditation might be next for our culture. It was a Terence McKenna video but it wasn’t him talking.
I agree that my original post here contains a picture of Buddha, but it was not meant as a religious text.
Aku. If you want to talk religion, feel free to PM me anytime
No, actually I think happiness is missing in that.
Yeh I get the same intrusive thoughts a lot of the time, I do have music on sometimes but it’s in the background, and I pay little attention on it cos my mind is thinking thinking thinking. It’s the same with exercise and other things such as watching tv… I have to really enjoy the tv program to be able to concentrate on it.
… or you are mentally ill.
I’m on the other side of the spectrum though. Think way too much!!
