Does anyone really believe this? Like, the inner speech was never as bizarre as the hallucinations may be?
This theory seems super obvious to me? Like of course the voices come from within the psychotic persons own thoughts, even though the person perceives them as external. It would be absolutely nuts if that werenât the case. Maybe im not understanding properly.
I guess what would clarify the proposition is what is meant by inner speech?
The voices are actually creating a new reality in my opinion which has nothing do with inner speech the way I understand it.
This is just hard for me to believe because most the time my voices talk non-sense even though I donât and they speak at times in different accents. They say random names. They talk in british, or southern accents. They say things I would never think of. I dont know where else they could come from but they definitely dont sound like me and when theyâre external itâs hard to believe itâs just my inner voice.
My understanding from this article is that theyâre not saying that hallucinations are things youâre saying to yourself literally in that sense of âinner speech,â but the hallucinations sound external because the part of the brain that differentiates external sound from internal sound is altered with schizophrenia.
Itâs not the same as someone asking âoh are you sure your hallucinations arenât just your self-talk or inner thoughts?â
Hallucinations come from my brain, that goes without saying. I hallucinate things that Iâm not thinking about, and things that are completely random, but thatâs not the point of the article. Itâs about sound distinction from external and internal noise.
