Okay, imagine that the ball makes a dark circle on the paper where it intersects. So when it’s barely touching the paper, it’s just a dot, but when it’s halfway through, it’s a big circle. Good?

I think I kind of understand now. The fourth dimension can do whatever it wants? Time travel, walk through walls, read minds?
Do people exist in the fourth dimension or is it just time?

Time would have to be a ghost, which makes no sense to me.
It’s okay. I’ll tell you what it means for me (I didn’t watch the video and so I can’t say for sure this is what sleepoptimistic means by it or what Carl Sagan thought I should get from it).
If my world is only this piece of paper, all I can see and understand of the sphere is just the point where my world meets the sphere. Everything on either side of it, I can’t see it. I don’t know it’s there. I just see a circle, sometimes a big circle, sometimes a small circle. Once the sphere passes through, I don’t see anything at all. To me, the circle is gone, it doesn’t exist anymore, it died.
But just because I can’t see the sphere doesn’t mean it stopped existing. It’s still out there, it’s just not touching my world anymore.
So we think of ourselves as not existing, being born, growing up, growing old, dying. But if we’re spheres passing through this flat sheet of paper, we’re babies and children and adults all at once, all at the same time, all the time. The reason we seem to change like that is because what we are right now, at this point of our passing through, is all we can see at the moment.
