23 years of Haldol

I call it 23 years of Haldol:

After I was diagnosed with sz when I was 22 I was told to take Haldol. This is a major tranquilizer. This was state of the art med for sz at the time. The psychiatrist at the time thought this was a good way to treat sz. Well, as we know research came up with a second generation drug called Abilify. I started taking that and responded positivley to it in a big way. This was about 20 years later when I was about 42.I slowly improved and I worked hard to learn as much as I could about sz. I went back to work and worked for another 15 years before I retired.

Moral of the story is make sure you’re taking the most appropriate med for your sz symptoms and thrive!

My friend with Sz is on abilify shots and he can work full- time.

There are some great responders on abilify. Too bad I wasn’t one of them.

So true. We all respond to meds differently as we have different brain structures. Glad your friend had a good reaction.

I heard a psychiatrist tell me she had a patient who had side effects with haldol and they eventually went away. I think this is a very new development.

Very well said!! I take olanzapine ODT with success. I’m glad abilify works well for you! @simpjeff1

Ya, for me Abilify continues to work pretty well. Haldol kind of numbed me out and what I call zombied me out.

I’m so happy for you that you found a drug that works for you. I just made such a quantum leap in my recovery after starting Abilify that i’m truly thankful for all the research the scientist do on our behalf.

All our brains are different hence the need for different meds.

Keep rocking!
