$1,000 Ambulance bill

I called 911 November 6th because I had a cold of some sort, and it was hurting to breathe and when I coughed. They sent an ambulance to take me to the ER. Yesterday I got a bill and demand for payment for $1,000, and they want there money in 15 days.

I signed an authorization to assign my Medicare benefits to them and mailed the bill back to them. Damn, I can’t believe there coming after me this quick. I guess I’ll be on the hook for $200 max, the 20% Medicare Copay.

That’s really expensive!

In Belgium there’s a fixed fee of 61€ no matter what the distance.

Thanks Jonathan2. I agree. It’s ridiculous.

BTW, one Euro = $1.04 (US Dollar)
One CAN $ = $0.75 (US Dollar)

Before I got Sz I used to work at a bank. Part of the job Exchange Rates.

They used to send an ambulance for suicidal people here now they take you to the hospital handcuffed in a police car. I always opt for a cab. But the hospital nearby is very rough and there is another not too far away which is supposed to be the best. I have never been so they would take me having not burnt any bridges there by having outbursts. Luckily I’ve never hurt anyone.

Yeah, I have Medicare too and try to never go by ambulance for that reason.

On July 30th. I had to go to St. Louis by medevac helicopter. The bill was over 67,000 dollars. I’m glad I didn’t have to paid for it. But I’m still alive because of the ride.

In Trinidad the public health system ambulances are free (rather paid through taxes, nothing is really free)

I just about broke my ankle around 6 years ago and they charged me $500 for crutches on the bill.

Aaaand they also tried to give me Percocet for the pain.

I woulda left the ER $500 in the hole with a fledgling substance abuse issue in an opioid-ridden part of the country.

…Never did take them up on the Percs, and never did pay that bill. Whoops.

@anon54988740 can you get on Medicaid? Then maybe they would cover the $200.
