I had that CD. Anyways, i remember the start of her career in the early 1980’s. You couldn’t turn on a radio anywhere without hearing, “Like a Virgin” playing. She was controversial for her time, her music and her image were usually sex-charged (I liked her) Incidentally, Michael Jackson shot to super stardom about the same time Madonna was making it big.

Just give me a Vegemite sandwich and dial 867-5309.

Yeah, I was newly released from the hospital around that time. But Michael Bolton’s screechy, cheesy voice almost drove me back in permanently.

I only listened to her songs twice. I haven’t got the chance to watch her performance on TV. Even though I liked her voice. It is sexy and beautiful.

yeah her songs during the like a prayer era was pretty cool… i like the song she did with Prince…

I don’t like the way Madonna expresses her sexuality in public. Frankly, it’s gross to me. I like the way Britney Spears expresses her sexuality in public. She does it right. I know she loves Madonna, but I still find Madonna overpowering and crude. Madonna seemed to express something a lot of young girls loved at the time, though. I give her high marks for hitting a strong emotion of the part of the public on the head. I think Madonna was really tuned into that. She knew what she was doing.

Her voice is annoying, her face is unappealing, and the way she tries to use sexuality to get more attention is disgusting.

I don’t like those types of musicians. Let your music be the reason people buy your albums, not the fact that you wore revealing clothes and did sexual things on stage / in public.

If she hadn’t had the looks and the ‘sex appeal’ would she have made it on her vocal talent? My opinion- almost certainly not.

I like Jump and Like a Prayer. I used to fancy her but now she’s not my type, it was a young love attraction.

Ah man, all her sex stuff is harmless fun. Despite opinions here, in the context of her time in the eighties, she was actually sort of a feminist who was just doing what the 1960’s women were doing which was to get women to “own” their own sexuality and express it and be open about it and not be ashamed of it. As to her talent, people don’t have such long lasting careers as hers without having talent… She must have done something right. At the end of the day, she is just an entertainer who shrewdly used what she’s got to make it big.

I still don’t understand how being an object to aid men’s masturbation is femminism… but we won’t object, I really appreciate your ‘owning your sexuality’ when I lock myself in the bathroom.

I don’t think Madonna would have had such tremendous success without MTV and the gay community.

I first saw her on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand in 1983. After performing her song Holiday, Clark asked her what her aspirations were and she responded, “I want to conquer the world.”

She was a staple on MTV, masterfully using the visual media. Her songs such as Holiday, Like a Virgin, and Vogue were a natural for MTV.

Madonna turned serious with the album True Blue, a raw account of her abusive marriage to Sean Penn. She wasn’t afraid to talk about domestic violence regardless of the risk to her career. Her song Live to Tell is as relevant today as it was 25 years ago.

She ventured into acting with Desperately Seeking Susan, Evita, and several other films.

Maybe she didn’t conquer the world, but she sure changed it for the better.
