I got hired on Thursday of last week, then I had orientation on Saturday, and yesterday was my first full day; it’s been pretty hectic this last week.
I work as a stocker during the day at a grocery store called Hyvee. This is my first ever real job, and while I was nervous, I’m pretty excited about it too. I worked nine hours yesterday, which is the most I’ve ever worked and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Most of all, I’m proud on how I’m doing mentally with my schizophrenia. I’ve really got my positive symptoms under tight control, though I still have a lot of OCD and negative symptoms issues. I never thought I would be able to work, but it goes to show how much sticking to a treatment plan helps, along with a good, recovery oriented attitude. Plus, $11 an hour doesn’t hurt.
