I don’t get it. I had a diagnosis of Bipolar 2 for six years and the meds (Lithium mostly) did wonders for my mood symptoms. Now that I’ve been diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder, I’ve been labeled as “Depressive” rather than Bipolar because I don’t have mania. But I have hypomania fairly often, and a combination of hypomania and depression equals Bipolar 2. So why am I not considered Schizoaffective Bipolar? I am SO confused!!!
Don’t get caught up on the labeling too much…I don’t think half the docs understand the labeling anyway lol …I was told by my doc sza means sz + bipolar…I don’t think that’s right but whatever she left mine at sz despite the d.I.d symptoms…but I don’t even know if that combo has a label…

Have you ever had full blown mania? That’s probably the reason.
Every my episode started with full blown mania, yet I’m diagnosed Sz not biploar.
No I haven’t but that isn’t required, you can have Bipolar Type 2 and NEVER have mania, just hypomania and depression like me.
Yes exactly, with BP2 usually people don’t have full blown mania. Hypomania is common though
Maybe that’s why the dx is sza depressive. There’s still a mood element, but no full blown mania
