I didnā€™t know there was an art to eating artichoke Iā€™ve only ever eaten them from a jar in oil which is pretty oily

all you need to prepare and steam artichokes is a strainer that fits in the bottom of your kettle and put two cups of water below the strainer and boilā€¦the steam will cook the artichokes within twenty minsā€¦little tipā€¦take trimming scissors and cut the thorns off each leaf of the artichoke before boilingā€¦once cooked, dip each leaf in lemon butter.

Can one not just pop them into boiling water thenā€¦I guess they lose some of their flavour

no boiling them wonā€™t workā€¦you need steamā€¦you could put a saucer on the bottom of the pan and cover that in waterā€¦that way it wonā€™t hurt the artichokesā€¦when it boils.
