I had weight gain on Olanzapine and fatigue. On Haldol I had movement problems and was permanently on Diazepam and Procycldine. On Abilify I was aggressive and an insomniac. Latuda I was fine on for 18 months until I got Akathisia. Risperidone I was a nervous wreck.
I am on Amisulpride now, and it makes me calm and mellow. A part from the risk of raised prolactin, I am happy with it now. It took some time, but I firmly believe that everyone can find the right balance with some experimentation and a good doctor.
Weight gain. Emotional blunting. Depression. Suicidality. Cognitive problems. Fatigue. Hormonal issues.
Withdrawal caused severe mood swings, anger, suicidality, depression, psychosis.
Second generation had more problems for me than low dose haldol. And I prefer my current symptoms over using more meds.
Restless legs and no sex drive. I’m on paliperidone and sertraline.
Erectile dysfunction. 666999
is the trade-off worth? what are the benefits overall?
I’m on Risperdal Consta, Geodon, Seroquel, Celexa, Klonipin, and Trazodone for sleep. The following are all of my side effects:
No libido, minimal orgasmic capacity, weight gain that is hard to take off, constipation, dry mouth, decreased creativity, coarse intentional tremors of the upper extremities, occasional akathisia, delayed urine stream, low motivation, flat facies, poor memory.
I have had diabetes for years since being on psych meds. I also have moderate akathisia from the Latuda and a twitch in my hand that i take benztropine for.
All in all, i am better off taking the meds than i am without them. My side effects haven’t been as bad as what some people experience. So i’m thankful for that.
do u take other meds for diabetes or do u switch the meds?
I take Metformin for the diabetes. I also try and eat healthy, as much as possible. My diabetes is controlled.
didn’t u consider switch to another antipsychotic which won’t cause diabetes rathar than taking merformin to handle it?
I’ve taken many APs over the years. Trust me, if there was a better way i would go for it. I have to take what works for me. Like i said, the diabetes is under control. So i’m okay with that.
I get really bad akathisia with mine. Fortunately I don’t get it when I’m laying down at night. I also get fatigue. I could sleep for many hours due to my medication. It makes me foggy too.
