What made you quit smoking?

I don’t seem to want to quit smoking.

The thought of living a happier longer life doesn’t seem to affect me at all. I just don’t want to quit. I’m a pack a day chain smoker.

But I need to quit.

If you quitted, what’s your story?
If you don’t want to quit, why?

Being homeless and having no money for booze or drugs, which I wanted more at the time. By the time I could afford cigs a lot of the urge had passed.

It gave a kick the first month. After that it merely became a habit to pass time while it reduced my health. It just wasn’t worth it at all.

I quit smoking cigarettes in January 2018 because they make me sick. They make me nauseous and make me throw up. I started smoking in 2005 when I was 15 and didn’t like it but I did it because I thought it looked cool. I smoked on and off until I quit in 2018 but not a lot. I think I only smoked a pack in a day once in 2008.

I quit cigs with nicotine gum, was on the gum for 5 years and then switched to vaping.

Now I quit because I have a wisdom tooth removal and I can’t vape for 2 weeks after it.

I hope to finally quit vaping but I might just pick it back up because I like nicotine. Who knows ?

I’m just happy I quit cigs. I literally cannot smoke cigs w.o throwing up or feeling nauseous.

Why do you smoke?

You are too weak to quit! (Reverse pyschology attempt)

I smoke because I like it. If I found my reason I would quit now, but I don’t find any reason with enough weight to quit.

You are just a slave to some corporate killing machine.

Too feeble to beat your master!

I mean, you are as well. That’s the world we live in, and the rules we must obey.

I don’t pay some company for the pleasure of killing myself slowly.

You couldn’t give up even if you tried!

We all do it in some way or another.

I was thinking if I was attempting a slow suicide. I’m not excited about my life at the moment, and it won’t get better with time.

I challenge you to quit then!

I don’t reckon you can.

I cannot, and the challenge doesn’t sound coercive enough for me to put it into practice.

Thanks for trying, though

I was in the airport in 2004 flying to Spain and felt the need to smoke.

I had to go into a ‘special’ designated spot to smoke. I was alone in this square box, like a prison cell and thought ‘is this what it comes to?’ A cordoned off metal box like a lepor. I noted it to myself.

I didn’t give up there and then, but my opportunity came on my return from spain in the psych ward. I didn’t want to sit and socialise in the smoking room, so I quit. No patches or anything.

September 2024 will be 20 years free of the nicotine.

Great story! I don’t mind the “smokers room” to be honest. If I found one good reason to quit, I would do it no chantix, no patches, nothing.

I’m reading Allen Carr atm.
