What is the Psych Ward like?

In one nice hospital I was in they kept a 4 gallon tub of ice cream in the freezer at all times and we could eat as much as we wanted to, anytime we wanted to.!!!

Maybe what I’m going to say doesn’t sound very honest or maybe its insensitive but I was back to this same hospital I mentioned above for my third time in a couple of months.

There were the the poor couple of anorexic girls who wouldn’t eat. I have great sympathy towards them. I lived in a group home with them prior to this and I saw and heard what they go through on a daily basis. The binging and purging. The extreme exercising, The laxative abuse. It was just so sad.

But anyways, in the psyche ward they used to try and make the girls with anorexia drink this canned milkshake type drink which was fortified with a protein and tons of vitamins and minerals that the girls were not getting because they wouldn’t eat. It was about a 10 oz can and one can would have 1500 calories in it!!!

They kept a supply of these in a refrigerator for the girls but I used to drink those a lot. They tasted so good and they came in chocolate and vanilla. I wasn’t depriving anybody of anything because the staff made sure the fridge was always stocked with these. I felt guilty about drinking them for some reason though.

It’s hard to predict what you’re going to encounter. Poop can hit the fan anywhere, but the private places tend to be better. They’re all pretty boring, but the food is better at private places, and there are more things to do. Some state hospitals are lucky to have a TV, but I think you can forget about going to a state hospital. Those beds are never available anymore, and people are just discharged to the street instead. Teaching hospitals are excellent as well. Lots of students want to get their hands dirty, so you usually have very attentive staff and nurses.

Gee, it was really common to see violence when I was in the hospitals, so long ago. I mean, if you consider one guy slugging another guy violence.

I’ve been involuntarily committed for 3 days when I was 17 years old because a “friend” gave me a potent marijuana edible unbeknownst to me. This was 10 years ago.

It sucked. I totally lost my mind that day. I was forcibly injected with Haldol and Ativan supposedly twice the adolescent dose first at a medical center.

I just remember being in a haze the whole time and my body shaking. I couldn’t comprehend anything at the Psych Ward and thought they were trying to poison and kill me with everything there (food, showers, etc).
