There is a lot of debate amongst psychologists as to whether schizoaffective disorder should be a separate disorder from schizophrenia. Some researchers argue that schizoaffective disorder should be identified solely as a subtype of either schizophrenia or mood disorder.

I mean what they have to do with it. They are not doctors… Sorry for comment, but I dislike non scientist talking about MI such as sz/sza…

No, I’m diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. I don’t have a mood disorder.

Sometimes llama sees and hears things.
Sometimes llama has the big sad.
Sometimes llama has both.
My positive symptoms are not solely dependent on my mood symptoms.
What’s interesting is that the content of my positives can change in accordance to my mood.

I’m sza and I understand it. I understand that I have both bipolar and schizophrenia at the same time. I get symptoms of both illnesses. How hard to understand is that?

There are very small differences between bipolar disorder with psychotic features and schizoaffective bipolar type.
Yes. The difference is that my psychosis never goes away, regardless of whether I’m in a mood episode or not.

I knew it when no matter what I did or how I felt, my voices just never went away. Not once. Not one day.

When I was first diagnosed, it was SzA. In 2008 I came out of the psych ward with a diagnosis of Paranoid Sz. My mood swings mellowed out a lot when I switched to Abilify.

You’re lucky. I have that, other hallucinations, delusions (pre-meds), etc, AND I’ve got mania (controlled with meds) and depression (can’t seem to fix this).

If you don’t mind me asking SkinnyMe, do you take anything for the mood swings, or just an antipsychotic. I’m only taking Abilify and Cymbalta now. I maybe started Cymbalta six months ago.
