What Is High Functioning Schizophrenia?

I found it a really lovely article.

I would say that I am high functioning, since I work and stuff, but cognitive symptoms are holding me back to live my life fully. I am pretty sure I have ADHD as well.

I would define myself as a high functioning too, but I like more term 'mild schizophrenia ’
I very rarely have symptoms. My life is fully normal, soon I will study masters degree.
Occasionally I feel terrible, but really rarely @angledangle

My last psychiatrist who knew me well felt that I was high functioning but I’m not so sure.
I consider myself more on the moderate side of things

Being in moderate side of things is still very good. @Wave

Yea… I’m middle to low functioning. Alone I’m decent but I fall apart with peoples in the mix

Out of 24 million people, I am surprised how few are here

I was thinking the same thing a couple of months ago… why do you think out of all those people only like 100 people seek this type of support :man_shrugging:t5::pineapple:

I am so very surprised because of it…
Does it mean biggest part of people with SZ are without insight or smth?
Or it simply means they’re not interested in such kind of support?

It’s literally strange @anon31960475

I think the domain would help attract people

But I guess as with most things, marketing has a big influence

Some people are too ill and caught up in their delusions to be up here.

Some are incoherent and can’t type meaningful communication

A lot think they don’t have sz (anosognosia)

Some people don’t like being online or don’t have access to the internet

Some don’t need support and are doing fine

Plenty of reasons I can think of on the top of my head.

Yeah, mostly those doing well, especially socially, are likely to stay away from the forum.

Yep I feel that but …100 people out of millions ? I guess I didn’t find this place until like 6 years into my illness :man_shrugging:t5:

In total there are actually 10,000 members but not many post frequently.

I function better than many people who don’t have SZ. The article describes me well. I am able to read facial expressions (I had to relearn the skill and I function well at work and socially). My empathy is definitely impaired.

I find the meds impair me more than anything.

I remember when I first got sick at age 19 and went to a support group. After the group I was talking to the leader of the group and I told her I was going to catch a bus home. She said, “Oh, you’re high functioning.”
