It is very expensive,I feel it’s not worth it as its like having conversation with another person. The difference is this person is more understanding and attentive,I feel comfortable but I do not want to spend Singapore dollar 150 for an hour session.I go in as a private patient…
I should make some friends and can spend time telling them my feelings and ideas,or share problems if I had any…Making friends is a cheaper alternative then having a psychotherapy session
Anyone have similar experience to me?
There are ways around money changing hands. Most churches offer free counseling these days. Places like the YMCA offer free sessions with qualified psychologists and open to all. Are some free alternative treatments places like Grow. Which is basicly AA converted to mental health treatments. Which is an Australian program but moving rapidly in other countries. So can’t give a link for your area. But google it.
Not so much a problem in my neck of the woods but be wary of cults if you go looking at alternative treatments. I posted Grow as has a very good reputation.
Most therapists are very much open to the barter system also. One therapist I was just doing odd jobs around his property in exchange.for treatment. Some of the smaller minorities have support groups and free counselling seasons. For example being a family member of a Vietnam vet in Australia! I’m eligible for free psychologist sessions. I’ve used it often. Most of those sessions where out sourced to be fined tuned to my needs.
A practice patient for a trainee psychologist. All while being supervised by a more qualified person is another option for free therapy. I know it sounds a bit scary but these people are more than qualified to help just lack fieldwork. If anything, a Uni student is likely to more down to earth. More understanding that you have no idea where your next meal might be coming from, than an overpaid, underworked, very old therapist.
Most therapists got into the line of work to help people. If your willing to do the work. Most are more than happy to help for free or look at alternatives. But you gotta prove it.
So there you are. There are other ways of getting help then money changing hands. Ask, beg, plead, think creatively!
I have to agree with you,
I have 1 friend that I can talked to about anything, and she can talk to me about anything. we are our own therapists in a way.
For me, I do not need anyone to give me feedback , I only need them to listen, thats all. once I have said what I needed to get out I feel great.
This forum in itself is probably the biggest help as a therapy as I can post something if I feel like venting or questioning if others have experienced the same. That is one of the biggest helps for me just knowing it is not only me that has these issues.
Thanks, this forum is indeed great, but I feel I needed a real friend to talk about, feelings, thinking and maybe schizophrenia…
This forum might be good enough to talk about illness
What about joining an off-line support group? Would help with your social skills while still being able to talk openly about your illness. You can never have too much support either.
I’ve found that sometimes talking to a psychotherapist is like talking to a fence post. Freud would probably have said that my prognosis for psychotherapy is not good.
I didn’t know that it can be that expensive. I’ll present my ear (virtually) to listen to you
If you feel comfortable, feel free to share your feelings any time. I won’t be able to give you a better feedback like a psychologist but I can listen to you without establishing anything about you beforehand.
Whoever you’d find, I encourage you to share your thoughts and concerns with your friend. Not necessary a friend, you can talk to anyone whom you trust like any of your parents, siblings and relatives etc. But please look for those who are sincere to you. Don’t assume anything about the person if you get advice in the response of your sharing…
I have always gone to a psychologist, preferably a PHD.
I have only seen a couple of social workers, and never a counselor.
I personally need to talk to someone professionally at least once a week - I just usually like to discuss my medication situation and how I am doing on a particular medication.
My current psychologist is knowledgeable on the different psych meds - not as much as me and never as much as a psychiatrist, but for a therapist she knows enough.
I admit that taking the meds for serious mental illness is more important than therapy - Therapy will not work if one is not stable enough on medications.
Yeah. Posting in forums like this is therapy in itself already.
Personally, talking to someone who knows Psychology is a big help for me. Luckily I have a relative I can talk to regularly who understands what I say. Otherwise it’s like you’re talking to a wall.
I suggest sticking to therapy.
I could go on one really long rant about therapy, I’m working in the psychotherapy lab at my uni, but I’ll just say that you should give it eight sessions and see if it helps.
Thanks for suggestion, now I am feeling ok,if I had mental episode again,I doubt I will have a episode if I don’t get too stressed up,I dont like spending a lot of unnecessary money
I was told that i can call to make an appointment with the psychologist,I hope I am well enough and not need it but I am not certain,I will call to make an appointment if I need it…
But I really think psychotherapy can help
If I need to see a psychologist or a psychiatrist, it is free.
Yes, this forum is great, we all know something different about our illness and we can share our insights here, I like this forum, helps me also to communicate in English.
Well, with therapy there is confidentiality. Your secrets are safe. With friends, or potential friends, there is no guarantee of that.
Maybe you can go to your therapist for half an hour? Since you like this person-it would be worth it.
Would they be willing to work with you on price?
I think the price is standard,it is a hospital psychotherapy,I am Malaysian, and private patient of the hospital,so the charges is expensive, maybe I will go to therapy but with cheaper therapist…
@mortimermouse,I visit my psychiatrist today,he told me to see the psychologist and think psychotherapy can help…I complained to him about that the psychotherapy is expensive,he suggested that I can see my psychologist once every two months
In the end I made an appointment with the psychologist 5 weeks from now, hopefully I can benefit and learn from the psychologist…
I actually look forward seeing her,she is pretty and seems like a nice person, very attentive and a person full of enthusiasm but the payment i don’t really like because it’s very expensive
I avoid hot doctors. I would end up telling them that I am attracted to them. My docs are all old men. Hot doctors = eager to please them with good news, because subconsciously I would want them to think of me as more socially desirable.
But that’s just me, I’m a 21 year old weight lifter, I have a strong impulse to have sex with attractive women, it’s actually a little tainted with psychopathic tendencies, according to my evaluation results- I get entitled feeling to attractive young women. Like I start to think that beating up other guys is the answer. Im aware of those thoughts being psychopathic and deviant.
But enough about me, good on you for going to therapy. I think you should see that shrink, you probably aren’t like me and wouldnt just be preoccupied with how attractive they are. The last thing I need is to pay a pretty woman to listen to me talk about being schizophrenic and give me tips on how to do well for myself given that I am schizophrenic. I’m fine with an old man listening to my crap.
But you should definitely go, you aren’t me. I’m not so sure you would actually want to be me.
