If you are curious to know if someone owes you money, check out your unclaimed assets at https://www.missingmoney.com/en/. Here in California, you can go directly to https://www.sco.ca.gov/upd_msg.html. I looked a while back and found out one of the long-term hospitals owed me money from my spending money account. I sent in my info and they cut me a check a short time later.
All sorts of unclaimed funds from old bank accounts, refunds from insurance and other weird stuff can pop up.
The state controller’s website for CA has an easy way to get it back. You do the online application, and it prints out all the info on an application you just mail in. All you need to do is sign and mail it to the address they give you.
