Treatment Resistant Schizophrenia

“The most common definition of treatment-resistant schizophrenia denotes patients with schizophrenia who, despite at least two adequate trials of classical neuroleptic drugs, have persistent moderate to severe positive, or disorganisation, or negative symptoms together with poor social and work function over a prolonged period of time.”

So my case worker said I have treatment resistant Schizophrenia, but I am confused as I have been on drugs that work before, but have had to be taken off of them because of horrible side-effects. I am also confused about this definition that basically draws the line after two trials of APs. Seems a bit heavy handed to me as what I have seen on this forum is people switching all the time.
