When a person wants to use the intimate form of words in their conversation, what is it called? I can only remember something like “too-ay”.
Tu is informal
Vous is formal
Tutoyer is talking informally
From the last thread someone posted about a frenchman with a bomb in his butt i thought this would of been about a tooshay
I thought it meant that you wanted to get closer to someone when you used tu. A friend got so excited when someone began to use the tu form.
Less formal speech is more personable. It means that you’ve broken through a barrier of formality.
It’s the same as in Spanish ‘Tú’ and ‘usted’.
In Dutch we have ‘je’ and ‘u’.
I guess it’s foreign to native English speakers.
Thank you, @Jonathan2 That clears it up.
What he said. ^^^
There’s also “votre excellence” when addressing an ambassador or a high priest. But I think that’s beside the point.
I don’t know why I clicked this thread. I saw the title and knew it didn’t and never would apply to me. So, of course, I clicked the red button. All the letters making up words that I cannot begin to pronounce drive me insane. It’s not the sza that’ll do me in; it’s French. le sigh
