I cut my hair myself up to a year ago since age twelve to age 43. I go to the barber now. It’s easier. I hated the ritual of doing it. I hate small talk at the barber too, but still go.

I wouldn’t do it myself but that’s just me I always go to a beauty shop to have my Hair cut and colored used to color my hair at home to messy and not enough room now that we live in a small house and have a tiny Bathroom my mom usually colors it for me one time when it was Summer time she colored it outside then After I sat with the color on my hair for 30 minutes I came inside to rinse it out haven’t colored my hair in a while and it shows a little not a lot wouldn’t color my hair if it wasn’t for those darn grey hairs my hair would still be dark brown like it used to be my natural hair color I miss those days of having dark brown hair. I color it a Light to medium brown now its mixture of the two. And I think it suites me and looks natural some hair colors look so fake I guess it depends on the person.

I do mine. It took some getting used to, and I had a few bad haircuts, but I got there eventually. It is way cheaper.

Do you use hair clippers or hair scissors or both?

I use just hair scissors to cut a very short layered hair style on myself. It takes me about an hour, sometimes more, and two mirrors, one fixed and one handheld.

I use clippers. I will say that, about once a year, I treat myself to a professional cut, and my barber does a MUCH better job than me. But my own job is good enough for the most part.

Do you have a recommendation on good clippers to use when.doing one’s own hair? Or important clipper features to consider?

I use this one

I bought it on clearance about 4 years ago, and it’s still working great. It comes with a few different size guard thingies, and some oil for conditioning the blade between uses.
