I think you’re both right - software should support all the modern browsers, but browser developers should also fully support W3C standards. Not sure what the issue is regarding ipads/safaris - but will try to find out.
Is there a way to get discourse to default to the mobile version for ipads? That would probably solve things. From what I can gather from the above posts, the pop up on screen keyboard and the create new topic dialog box don’t have enough room together on the ipad screen.
Here is some feedback on how to have a good experience on the ipad with this site:
You do need to be on a recent version of Safari - so make sure you update your Safari web browser and download the most recent version. You can go here to get instructions on how to do that:
One thing you should take note of, with selection, you have to select just the lines you want. If it selects a whole block, “quote reply” won’t appear.
I will check on this and get back to you on it. What version ipad do you have?
Sorry, I was just offering a suggestion for people who use ipads, I don’t actually use Apple products at all.
Thanks. And actually - the lead software engineer who developed this forum software actually says DO NOT default to mobile mode on ipads - the experience will be worse for some reason. When I use the idad I just interact on the site like normal and have no problems. Don’t put it in mobile mode. I think thats more for smartphones.
Here is his message:
“You should not default to mobile on iPad, it will be a worse experience. But you can inflict pain on yourself, if desired, via the hamburger menu at upper right.”
