@LilyoftheValley, I worked as a security guard for some time. When we had no backup and we were outnumbered by miscreants we were to call the police, then confront, but from a safe distance and a hopeful path to safety. If confronting did not work we waited for the police.
I’ve been hired at jobs I wasn’t sure I could do, Park Ranger for example. I usually rise to the occasion and I am able to do them with a little training. Maybe if you got promoted to manager you would “rise to the occasion” and do just fine. Calling the police would have been a good solution too.
I think calling the police would have been the appropriate thing to do. Confronting the arguing customers could have escalated things further. And asking them to.leave could have just moved potential violence outside.
Your manager was damn lucky that things didnt escalate further. Relying on luck is not a good management strategy.
@LilyoftheValley. I can totally relate to how you are feeling. I turned down a store manager position many years ago. I just didn’t want that much stress in my life. The higher paycheck wouldn’t have justified the stress.
