The Gambia in west Africa. On my Vacation list

I like visiting interesting places that aren’t too touristy. I much prefer backpacking places and staying in small guesthouses then 4/5 star hotels. (although I wouldn’t say no to 4/5 star hotels ) I prefer scenic and right on the beach guesthouses.

I’ve been looking at going to Gambia on a tourist vacation, its not expensive for 10 days and normal travel agents do bookings. I have only been too Egypt in Africa, I’m going to Morocco in October next year for 15 days. I thought maybe I could squeeze Gambia in there too?

I think Gambia is off the beaten trail. I have a couple more vacations booked for next year too…

I do spend an unhealthy amount of time looking at vacations and doing budget plans, buying travel books. I have a whole bookcase full of travel books such as Lonely Planet and Bill Bryson books, he’s my favourite author. Do you think this is unhealthy obsession to always be thinking about Traveling?

I guess if you’re able to pull it off, what the heck. I can’t stop thinking about doing photography. I just wish I had the ability to travel to different places to do it.

Going to at some point. My weekends keep getting consumed with family crap.

Edit: I had to send the drone to DJI for service – need that back to maximize shooting capability.

IDK, there’s such a thing as a healthy obsession. People like pro athletes obsessively train and practice. Some successful movie and television actors were obsessed with making it to the top. A lot of people who are at the very top of their profession got there by obsessively working at it.

In your case…I guess what matters is the degree of your obsessing. If traveling is your whole life, I mean if you want to make traveling your whole life than maybe it’s OK. It’s generally good to be well rounded in life and have more than just one interest. If you are neglecting other important things in your life to indulge in your desire to travel, you might want to look at that. Another way of looking at it is that you’re successful at traveling and success takes sacrifice. If you want to sacrifice other things in life in order to travel that is your choice. People who obsessed about succeeding and made it to the top often regret the sacrifices they made. But not always.

I don’t want to sound negative, obviously there are plenty of good things about traveling. I’ve done a tiny bit of traveling myself but traveling was never high on my list of things I wanted to do in life. That said, traveling is fun and I’m glad that I did the little traveling that I did.

Not at all

Many people like to travel

It’s no surprise you’re obsessing after not being able to go anywhere for 2 years during Covid lockdowns
