A woman who was blind since birth was cured by a stem cell injection. Then something unexpected happened. She began to suffer psychosis (studies have shown that blind people don’t have schizophrenia). The doctors gave her antipsychotics but they didn’t help. She was discovered to be med resistant. The terror of her voices mixed with the excitement of seeing things for the first time. So doctors debated on whether to let her continue to suffer psychosis or make her blind again to see if that ended the voices. Suddenly while they debated the woman yelled. The stem cell injection had worn off and she couldn’t see again. The voices also left. So the doctors gave the woman a choice. Did she want blindness or schizophrenia? After careful deliberation she made a decision. What do you think it was?
Very good ! Bravo !
I would choose schizophrenia. I’ve never been blind and wouldn’t know how to handle it. I’m already good at being schizophrenic. I’d probably feel differently if I was born blind, though.
I’d definitely take sz over being blind, deaf, or paralyzed.
I’d choose sight with voices. Voices seem curable.
Yeah I don’t like the idea of being blind, deaf, paralized… no thank you. I’ll take schizophrenia please.
I’m already close to being deaf. I’ll choose deafness over sz. But, I wouldn’t choose blindness. I would choose sz over any kind of paralyzation. But, those last are very close calls.
Why would blind people not get schizophrenia? What does not being able to see have to do with the brain? I kinda don’t believe it.
I would choose blindness. With a broken mind, everything important breaks with it. With broken eyes and a sound mind, everything truly important seems to stay the same - love, joy, spirituality, inner peace, trust, a strong self, etc. No doubt, i would switch my eyes for a healthy mind.
There was a boy on our national tv. He was totally spastic, paralyzed to the neck. He could only speak with a computer. He gave his life quality a 9.5 out of 10. A strong mind in a sick body.
Apparently it’s only something seen in people who were born with it so gouging out your eyes is not a cure. Nobody knows why that’s been noticed.
