Mods do not have access to the backend, so we cannot tell what is going on.
It is possible that Discourse software is being updated or that there’s an issue with the servers.
Edit- it is system maintenance.

I was not able to logon a few minutes ago because of read-only mode (since login is disabled). I kept trying to log on every few minute until login was enabled again.

Read only mode means they are doing maintenance and have turned off the ability to write changes to the database back end.
