Shockingly poor service from a Community Mental Health Team

Thank you @Joker

I would like to talk to you privately though @Joker

It’s ok man. We all have a past. Just need to reflect on it, and I believe that even negative experiences can give someone more realism, and life experience.

To turn it around is a good thing, as a lot of people can’t do that.

@Joker

Thats true, people shouldn’t be hold on past deeds, I had it rough back then, I mean rough. 20 years later I’m now happy. I think me and you are very similar.

@anon38498012 Yes, from 2010-2012 I had a designated Community Psychiatric Nurse who visited me at home, initially twice a week then once a week then as I improved it went to once every two weeks and finally once a month before stopping altogether when I was discharged from the CMHT. The visits were usually 1 hour long from what I recall, though I think I occasionally had 2 hours if I requested it in advance. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Sorry Late to reply - Ive been hectic here. @Rivka

The first bit of advice i can give is do what @firemonkey suggested and write an email to PALS.

In my 30 odd years of MH experience they will fob you off at the first opportunity. They have had funding cuts, staff are leaving - and frankly they dont want another mh case on their workload.

I would suggest goto the CAB - and write a concise email explaining your concerns - and make sure you tell them what stress this has put you under.

Under the NHS charter - PALS are obliged to reply to your complaint within 14 days. I had the same - i had to BEG the paramedic for anti-psychotic medication at an appointment with the local A+E.

This was before i got the schizophrenia Diagnosis, they just thought i was EUPD (hence percieved pain in the arse)

Like @firemonkey says - Its a postcode lottery - and im sorry, but your gonna have to fight for it :frowning:

It took involvement from the Police to get me to be taken seriously in the end - and give them a kick up the backside.

Best Of British Luck to You x

For a long time, I was unhappy about the treatment I received. Oh well. Now that I’ve tried to be of help to other schizophrenics, I know it is not easy to truly be of help.

I wonder what the referral looked like that got the agency to look into your case?

@Jayster It started with me making a self-referral online (this is increasingly done here in the UK nowadays; one no longer has to get the GP to do it) to the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) team. The next day I had a call from someone who asked me a few questions and said she thought my case serious enough to refer me to “secondary care.” A few days later I had a telephone assessment with a psychiatric nurse from “Single Point of Access” and he was very good and thorough and helpful and assured me that in light of what I was telling him about my symptoms he would be referring me on to the Community Mental Health Team and that I would then see a psychiatrist. So that’s why I was surprised and concerned that my CMHT telephone assessment was not with a psychiatrist but with this lady who seemed to be incompetence personified and who seemed to take away (hopefully not in reality) the serious help I had more or less been promised. There are many more ways in which she came across as incompetent and very bad at her job but I won’t bother listing those here.
