Self-medicating

I don’t tell people not to drink because they are sick.
I tell them because I know it will just make them sicker.
Same thing goes for people without mi.
It just destroys the body slowly over time.
Even in moderation.
But, I guess to each their own.
I only speak from experience.
Don’t like people suffering as I once did.

I still enjoy alcohol in social situations. I still drink regularly but I don’t drink to get drunk. A couple of midstrength beers to relax isn’t too bad for your health. Overdoing it or drinking to get drunk really is the start of a problem.

For me. Replacing negative things with positive things is the way to go. Instead of smoking I’d walk. These days I’m into exercise. It is still a chemical rush but it’s way more healthier and leads to better things. Try some positive exercise. It gets easier and even can be addictive. Way better than the booze.

From my knologe naltrexona is an opioid. Am I right?

I’m not saying you should start but smoking helps me calm down and relax. It’s my “alcohol”

Alcohol is a depressant. It may be affecting your moods in a way that you may not even be aware of.

oh true well i wish you luck in breaking the habit, but its okay many of us self-medicate.

some stuff that might help you is:

  1. antioxidants (e.g. pomegranets, balsamic vinegar, rosehips) to help with depression

  2. secondly, strong camomile tea or dandelion tea is a good diuretic

  3. If you turn to alcohol as a sedative (which i dont think is a good idea because alcohol is also a stimulant which can cause mania) then i think CBD oil might help, maybe you should look into it. It has a sedating effect and like lamictal its even effective enough to treat seizures.

if so you want CBD which does not contain THC because even hemp plants in nature (that have not been manipulated by people to produce large amounts of THC) have very little THC and very little hallucinogenic effects.

THC would make one more manic. But CBD oil sedates and might help you relax and not be so anxious.

Good luck hope youre doing well.

Drinking makes me rapid cycle. So no drinking for me. I find if I drink , the following day I end up manic then I crash for like 5 days.

Now I settle for Root beer 🙋

BTW if you cant get CBD where you live, also in that class of herbs (sedatives) is cedarwood oil. heres a study on it:

lol if youre really tough you could probably get some cedar branches yourself (not juniper!) and boil them into a tea and sip it when you need to relax. dont know how strong is is though so, if i try it i can let you know

That’s what I was going to say. I was the sickest and weakest I have ever been when I was drinking heavily while I was on medications when I first came to our assisted living center. It’s been two years and five months since I last drank, and I think my body still hasn’t repaired itself.

I drink 24 beers a week which usually ends up being 5 a day from the hours of 1:30 pm to 5pm, with two days dry. It gets me out of the bed and motivates me to do something when all I would do otherwise is lay down. I listen to music and play a video game and try to feel happy.

By the time my wife comes home at 5:30 I’m sober and I cook dinner and then the effects are totally gone.

I don’t know if this is too much but it doesn’t affect my home life with my wife (that only happens if I’m tipsy when she’s around).

Im not sure if that’s too much on the liver but I go often for blood tests and everything has always seemed fine.

Drinking gets out of control when you can’t stop and causes trouble with your loved ones. If you stick to a rigid plan of how much and at what times to drink I think it can be managed well.

Don’t do what I do though, do what’s best for you, and never let yourself get out of control. I have a son and a wife so my responsibility to them keeps me in check

I’ll just say this, they don’t put alcohol warning labels on medication for the pharmacist’s health.

Nope it’s an opioid blocker. It blocks opioids. It also blocks pleasure you get from drinking and cravings from alcohol so you don’t wanna drink anymore.

I agree with @77nick77 and @crimby Too much of alcohol will drag you down in ways we don’t know about. But I drink 2 glasses of wine every 4-6 weeks. It is fun. I don’t self medicate. in moderation is cool you can enjoy but not overdo.

I crave for a can of beer once in a while but the truth is I can’t handle even a tiny amount of alcohol.
I stopped drinking years ago.
I’m better off this way.

I heard on the radio CBd interacts with antipsychotics

I haven’t had a drink for 15 years. I just don’t have the urge to and I don’t want it to interact with my meds that are already central nervous system depressants.

Some people might be ok with it though.

yes probably because its effective at sedating. If your meds are sedating and its sedating then yea its going to mess with the balance, thats why you have to talk to your doctor about it

“This warning may be more applicable for products containing THC, which is the psychoactive cannabinoid found in marijuana plants. CBD oil products do not contain this cannabinoid and do not have psychoactive properties. Products high in CBD have actually been found to potentially reduce symptoms of psychosis. That being said, CBD oil does have the potential to interact with antipsychotic medications. It has been found to reduce the clearance of some antipsychotic medications from the body. Before using CBD oil with antipsychotics, you should discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.”

it looks like it can interact with them in two ways:

  1. when it contains THC which is hallucinogenic
  2. it slows your metabolism (sedates) thus making AP’s stay in your system longer

CBD that has no THC its essentially a good sedater then

that being said it seems it may throw off your current med balance so its important to talk to your doctor and select an appropriate dose and treat it like you would anti-anxiety meds
