That’s amazing if the test is accurate.
I 'm a bit sceptical; as I think there have been several such claims about blood tests in the past.
The most accurate test was based on the 10 most predictive proteins. It correctly identified those who would go on to develop a psychotic disorder in 93% of high-risk cases, and it correctly identified those who would not in 80% of cases.
That’s pretty darn good.
Of course as yet they have no way to prevent schizophrenia from developing in at risk people. There are some trials. But it also might help if they can start trials in at risk people before it becomes clear they’re at risk.
But yeah, lots of groups have done something like this. No one has translated it to a test that doctors can use. Maybe they could, but they haven’t.
A very interesting study. I’ll try reading up the original paper. It is published in a journal with a high impact factor (17).
