Risk factors for sudden cardiac death among patients with schizophrenia

CONCLUSIONS:

Apart from cardiovascular profiles and antipsychotics, physical aggression is a crucial risk factor that deserves ongoing work for clarifying the mechanisms mediating SCD in schizophrenia.

Smoking, drinking, over eating, salt, sugar, caffeine, lactose, dehydration, hydrolectrolyzation; far more than 8 glasses of water a day. Not being allowed to breathe with the mouth, not allowed to breathe with the nose. Holding the tongue, biting the tongue, over arching the gums, sticking too much cotton in one’s ear daily. Being locked away for coughing, cuffed for spitting, walled for farting… Ahem, no moderation in what is excessive not enough vibration of what is lacking…

physical agression could be linked to sudden cardiac death if:

agressive people are more mentally ill and seek medical help less often
or
agressive people are given higher dosages of drugs
or
agressive people go to jail or get locked up where medical attention is less

ITS probably not because they suddenly collapse due to agitation, which hopefully nobody believes

I tend to blame the Antipsychotics for cardiac issues, including sudden cardiac death.

Sudden Cardiac death is listed as a side effect with all of the antipsychotics - I am almost positive about this.

Mood destabilization or not, I will be pushing to go lower on my Antipsychotic - Will bring it up with my pdoc again, we already discussed it and she seemed to be OK with lowering the Risperdal.

My heart was pounding so hard and fast at 4mg - it was very scary, thought I was going to die of a Heart Attack - Never Again!

This is my heart condition:

It corrected itself naturally before birth, but there are some resulting physiological anomalies. The median age at death for people like me is 40. I turn 47 in a few months. Sudden cardiac death has been a possibility for the last 15 years and more so with each passing year. Oh well.

Either I’m not dead, so I’ve got nothing to worry about or it kills me, I’m dead, and then I really do have nothing to worry about. In either case, no worries.

Not gonna lose sleep over it.

I was looking up the AP’s recently and they can interact with one another and cause a prolonged QT interval which can kill suddenly. Being on three AP’s now I get a little nervous about it. But I’d rather be sane. The psychosis I’m sure could cause a heart attack. It would be horrible to be scared to death. Have you ever tried Saphris? I know they use it for BiPolar disorder also. Good luck with your pdoc. :sunny:

My pdoc brought up Saphris a few months back but then never mentioned it again.

I am keeping my eyes out for a safer AP than Risperdal, I am going to have another discussion with my pdoc - thanks @SunGirl

Risperdal is horrible with side effects. You might have to fight your insurance for Saphris but it’s a good med. Just don’t get the plain ones. Yuck! (They’re sublingual). :sunny:
