PureTech Health Gets Good Results In KarXT Antipsychotic Drug Study

LONDON (Alliance News) - PureTech Health PLC on Thursday said its subsidiary Karuna Pharmaceuticals achieved positive results from the tolerability proof-of-concept study of KarXT.

KarXT is being developed as an antipsychotic drug for patients with schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease, combining xanomeline - which is a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor agonist - with trospium chloride - which is a muscarinic antagonist.

Xanomeline is exclusively licensed to Karuna and has demonstrated robust efficacy in reducing psychosis in patients with both schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease, but has been associated with side effects which have limited its development.

In the proof-of-concept study, the addition of trospium chloride was found to improve tolerability of xanomeline, meaning KarXT was found to be generally well-tolerated with superior tolerability to xanomeline alone.

Based on the positive safety results and previous efficacy data on xanomeline, Karuna now intends to initiate a Phase 2 clinical trial of KarXT in 2017.

If it works for negative symptoms… it would the the super Aps in the future …Hope it passes all its phases…!!! Finger crossed…!!!

I take a acetycholinerase inhibitor for my myasthenia Gravis. Acetycholinerase inhibitor is also used for Alzheimer’s disease. Both illnesses have psychosis. But the stomached upset is awful, makes your stomach work overdrive. Cramping and diarrhea, I see this article mentions the stomach problems with this new drug.

we don’t even know what the other side effects could be, it might make us feel dopey or something. You think anything will be coming out between now and 2022?
