Hernando Cortez conquered Montezuma and the Aztecs. And he didn’t even have the common courtesy to ask the Aztecs if they minded first.

I know that Montezuma was the emperor of the Aztecs.
As for the origin of the name, I know that it’s Nahuatl (the native language of the Aztecs).

Well whenever my Aunt vacationed in Mexico with her husband she would get diarrhea from the water. She called it Montezuma’s revenge. That’s why I think that when I see that name. sorry. lol
