I need them like I would need a prosthetic. That’s how I explain them they are a prosthetic for our brains and they work much better then nothing at all. Thank God for the doctors and scientists out here. developing these meds.

Above is my case. Side effects sometimes bother me, but my symptoms are well under control.

I was just thinking that I probably would still take them if I was cured because I think they would benefit even a normal person in small doses.

Really? How so?

Curiosity, because they reduce mental stress. I asked the doctor what would solitary confinement do to a normal person and he asked why and I said because I’ve isolated myself too much and have become withdrawn.

Is this for school?

Nope! I’ve been reading articles and came across a statistic twice now that said 20-60% of schizophenics might not experience any positive effects from antipsychotics. Thought that sounded ridiculous, first off that is a HUGE range, and if 60% of schizophrenics didn’t benefit from antipsychotics you’d think that’d be a big deal right?

So I decided to ask people about their meds on here because I was just curious, and so far it’s proving my thought that that statistic is ridiculous correct.

Seroquel is an antipsychotic that’s used in a lot of other disorders for that purpose. Sometimes medications are prescribed for other purposes than what they were intended for, like Gabapentin which is intended to be used to treat seizures but is often used as an anti-anxiety medication as well.

It’s an interesting thought!

I haven’t found my exact situation about how I feel, although the sentences were mostly analytical. My situation is most similar to this:
“I have not noticed any improvement in my condition at all from taking medication and still feel symptomatic, but my doctor and relatives say they have noticed an improvement”
But the difference is that I have noticed a little improvement in positive symptoms.
There are so many details in different situations that you could use many sentences to describe each one, lol.

Yes I was fortunate to have been prescribed Gabapentin to relieve the nerve pain in my back. It is a great anti-social medication as I find it eliminates most all unjustifiable paranoia and thus makes me more sociable but others may find the excessively talkative effects annoying, but I don’t. I won’t hardly let the other person speak at all.

Yeah I know haha. I was actually just thinking that I should have included something for mild improvement. I felt like it was getting long enough at the time I made it though lol.

I hope to be put on it for my anxiety soon…time between pdoc appointments is sooo loooong

It would be ok if it was long enough, but it’s ok now too. Still, the idea was very good.

I hope your doctor will prescribe some for you. It is non-habit forming.

Haldol is used for nausea, I might add

Really?? Wow. Small medicinal world wahaha

To be honest, I have mixed feelings about my med’s. I know I have to have them, but I resent the side effects.

That seems to be the consensus for a lot of people. Unless the side effects outweigh the positive ones though antipsychotics seem to be a necessary evil for now…

I feel it is a necessary evil. It keeps my symptoms in check. But if I didn’t have to take it I wouldn’t.
