Opinion: Modern ‘asylums’ would be a compassionate answer for mentally ill homeless people

I think something should be done about abusive people trying to make people non functional. They’re causing all the economic problems for people. Manipulative people are making people feel hopeless and unable to function in the oppressive atmospheres they deliberately create.

I’m all for it. As long as it is humane and people are treated with kindness.

As long as the oversight on facilities was up to humane standards, never again like the institutions of old, I would be in support of it.

It’s better than letting the sick die on the street like that. It may help save some of us that lost our way

As long as it keeps the severely mi away from the prison system, then I’m all for it.
We have a humane state run hospital close to us.

It serves as an institution.

Costs a lot of money. I think cost comes into most conversations these days regardless of policy.

Cheaper just to cure the ■■■■. B theory of time, block universe, and string theory are correct. Just have people come back in time and cure it. Not hard. Isn’t block universe the same as b theory of time? Are they similar? I think they got the cure. If I really have bipolar, then maybe mine was caused by the norovirus. I tried reducing my insanity to bipolar in a past life. I tried everything in my power to do so. The government in a past life said I have bipolar, not schizophrenia. I trust them. I couldn’t believe it though. Now that I’m doing better and am on supplements, I have more clarity and insight. I don’t know why they wouldn’t cure it. It sucks.

@insidemind Let’s try and keep this out of unusual beliefs territory .

Like my neighbors.

An asylum would be nice. I don’t think people belong in the streets for being mi.

I support it as long as they don’t throw everyone with MI in one.

After being street homeless myself for about 6 months, 7 years ago. Im afraid you would probably get all the junkies and alcoholics faking an MI (ive seen it) to get in such a place. I very much doubt it would probably happen here in uk anyway. You would get the addicts bunched up with the MI - leaving them wide open to abuse.

What we don’t need here is stigma against those with substance abuse problems, many of whom have severe mental illness. Dual diagnosis

We have an agency in my county that provides housing, medication, psychiatry, and a day program. They do it on Medicaid and the monthly disability checks.

I went to a really deluxe mental hospital a number of times. My lack of gratitude is enormous.
