Ok car ppl

So it’s hot I had to run to town ac stopped cooling so good and then the little flag with waves under it light came on. I noticed the car was running hot. I turned it off for a few it cooled half way and I drove home wo ac running.

I’m guessing it needs something in the radiator but what… Water or coolant or something?

Check the coolant level. If you open the hood it has a max min level. Near the washer fluid.

In the meantime if its running hot and u have to get somewhere to get coolant or get it checked, then run it with the heater on. Itll draw some of the heat out of the engine area

If you have the manual you can look up what the little light means. Yeah, I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to run the air conditioner if the engine is overheating.

I ordered some coolant. I know where the radiator cap is how do I know when it’s full?

I’m not sure about your car but for most newer cars, you don’t put the coolant directly into the radiator. There’s a plastic ‘basin’ or plastic ‘reservoir’ that you put the coolant in that feeds into the radiator and like @LevelJ1 says, there should be a line marked that shows how full it should be.

Two main suspects are coolant level and if that is okay could be a wonky thermostat.

Yeah most likely your coolant levels are low.

Yeah now I bought coolant no clue where to put it in. I have an 08 pt cruiser and can’t find a video on it ugh

There should be a clear, plastic container nestled inside your engine near the top with a cap that screws off. Look for a wavy line symbol on it indicating temperature. Don’t confuse it with a small, plastic container with an umbrella symbol on it, that’s your wiper fluid container. Also, don’t confuse it with the place you put oil in.

To find the coolant reservoir, follow the hose from the radiator to the reservoir.
