it was my third session of CBT therapy today and all we talked about where my meds and what I eat.
its getting annoying now how is this supposed to help me. im suicidaly depressed and we talk about what I had a for dinner.
It’s not going to happen overnight. It does take time to build up trust. Give it a bit more of a chance and see how how you feel after about ten sessions or so. Your also suicidal now so the tdocs priority is to see judge how bad you are. Also If you’re anything like most of us the topic of an anti-suicide contract will come up. Contrary to our beliefs they are quite helpful.
Sometimes CBT can get pretty intense. Your therapist might be starting slow and getting ready to work up to the more intense stuff.
I do understand the frustration. But setting the tone and finding the trust boundaries is also sort of process.
If it does get too intense too quickly you want to feel that you can tell your therapist that you need back off of some of it and not feel like your “in trouble”
Good luck
I think that more and more honest therapists are acknowledging the fact that therapy can go so far when it comes to treating patients with biological based brain disorders like schizophrenia or bipolar.
My therapist and I discuss my meds, because she knows that my bp/sza can improve through medication management - I like the fact that we discuss my meds - she is pretty informed for a therapist on my medications
the therapist has to get to know you first.
this happens to me i go in and just talk…blah…blah…and i wonder where it is going.
but then i manage to achieve something else…before the next session !!
cbt does work…go with the flow…lower your expectations…before you know it you will see progress.
take care
Once I was struggling with dealing with the death of my mother and the head of the peer specialist program came to talk to me because I was between peer specialists at the time. Instead of talking about any of the issues that were plaguing me she wanted to talk about how the jar of peanut butter on my table should be in the cupboard and how I should open my curtains to let in more light. Some mental health professionals are clueless.
thankyou everyone I have to remind myself to be patient but its not in my nature LOL
I think that in an emergency like potential suicide, it would be more helpful to address the issue.
Well mental health is tied to physical health in some ways. Maybe that’s where the therapist was going with the questions about what you eat. I don’t know.
i used to freak out about not knowing what to talk about in therapy but after a while things got easier. Opening up takes a little time.
If you’re suicidal maybe you should go to the hospital??
