Yeah, when I was at Soteria you could talk to the counselors about anything including delusions and hallucinations and paranoia. The counselors had no experience in the psychiatric field but were hired for being nice, empathetic, tolerant, understanding and good listeners. They tolerated some pretty crazy behavior from the residents. They called all this, “normalizing the schizophrenia experience”.
I read about the soteria project and watched a video on it. I don’t remember the people behind it, but the goal was to provide an alternative treatment to meds. I remember video of a girl crying talking to her parents. Her suffering seemed unnecessary. But I’d of been down to try it.
