New radical idea for site

To some of you this will be a bad idea. But at least for my needs and concerns I think it is a great idea. It works like this: a thread older than a few months is erased. This would give us more privacy. Think about it this way: would you chat the same way with friends or in a chat room where the conversations were up for display for the whole world to see indefinitely? I see this as a problem. I know with the old forum I had problems with old posts of mine not being deleted upon request. I think this is a much cleaner idea for the thread and gives us much needed privacy. Even if our true identities were discovered by someone malicious, we would have some relief that the totality of our posts weren’t up for peer review essentially, which could add up to years of posts, and as schizos we all know we have our ups and downs in this roller coaster ride. I think it would help us evolve and not look back on the past too much.

Every exchange on here is a priceless interactions between schizos. Shows not only what we go through but hope cope and how we can communicate.

I’d just suggest you think before you post something.

I would imagine that the site sponsors sees this forum as an educational tool amongst other things. Basically all material is referenced by a search engine , so anyone can search on anything schiz related. That means if people want insight on a range of subjects they simply enter keywords into the search box and click search.

Just on all this. , I generally try to be responsible in my posts , that means I don’t give out personal information , and I generally don’t put anything into a post that I wouldn’t communicate verbally to someone.

Now schiz is a severe condition and people will want to discuss far out stuff , but for me at least I try to own what I do.

If you don’t want private information on the forum , then don’t publish it.

It’s not that easy in an on line world Daimon. I hope Admin would be able to give more insight on it. But think of it this way; if two or many people who have contributed on a post then not necessarily they would wish the thread to be deleted. A certain post is easier to erase but whole thread to delete is not something which others would like to do. That’s why you see the controversial topics Locked not deleted. Delete is something which comes in handy only when some post goes against a forum’s rules…\

In an online world, everyone is responsible for its own privacy. Do not share your contact details on a public post. Whatever has been posted will eventually piled under other posts so don’t worry much about it…It should be a way to compare yourself now and back then…Make it better with each passing time…

Have a good one!!!

I am struggling to see how a time limit on how long a thread stays up would improve privacy. I think it is good that people can see how we ebb and flow in how we are over a period of time. Unless you post explicit personal details there is little chance of your privacy being breached irrespective of how old or new a thread may be.
Erasing threads after a certain time would run the risk of important advice, information and support being lost and would reduce the quality of the forums.

Nothing on the internet is private.
Don’t believe all things shiny either…

Personally, I like the idea of reading the old posts-mine as well.
It helps to spot reoccuring pattern when it’s in a timeline, rather than as it is happening. Helps manage the odd thinking when rereading stuff too.

People change over a lifetime. The disease stays the same. Some symptoms gradually change or disappear. Even this site itself has gone through metamorphoses of its own. I don’t have the time to look around back there. Privacy is just one of the issues that come with owning a computer. Thanks for your suggestion, Daimon. Maybe the software doesn’t allow deleting older post .

So that’s great, you guys are saying we are essentially being data-mined for information by psychiatrists?

Probably not psychiatrist. But other schizos who are looking for help.
