But that I will most probably die from metabolic illnesses. Why was I not told that I was going to get fat as ■■■■ from AP’s and developed metablic syndrome? Anyone else asks that same question?
Geodon doesn’t cause weight gain but it does cause heart disease. Pick your poison we are all going to die from something or another.
I am now stable on Abilify but I got fat on Clopixol depot and Olanzapine. If I had known from the beginning I would have taken Abilify from day 1.
Ya they stuck me on haldol many years ago. I was so sedantsry I put on a tremendous amount of weight. I lost some but still need to lose about 60 pounds. Major bummer!
Don’t worry about this misfortune …Cuz cure is coming …but it will takes time…wait and be patience …!!!
God is with us…!!!
It was the same for me on Clopixol depot. Being sedentary as a result of heavy negative symptoms and typical AP made me gain too much weight which I can’t seem to get rid off now
Abilify is supposed to be the best for metabolic problems. It raised my blood sugar though, so now I’m on metformin for that.
I think heart disease is a big issue for schizophrenia, and the smoking which causes it.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of premature death among schizophrenia patients, who die from heart and blood vessel disorders at a rate double that of persons without the mental disorder.
So give up the cigs folks.
I quit smoking 10 years ago. A year ago I developed cardiac dysrhythmia so now I drink Tambocor and Concor for that on top of all my other meds for high bp, cholesterol and diabetes…but I am not complaining too much. All the meds have kept me alive so far😀
I’m doing mostly ok, just the metformin so far. But I wonder is metformin just the start. Better to know about all those things and be on meds for them though.
Not to mention APs raise risk of death in those with dementia, so even if we stay physically fit we are still likely to die earlier.
Don’t worry new drugs are coming…!!!
How do u know?
hope dies last bro…med like min 101 and sep 856 are coming soon may takes mere 5yrs or so…i am not sure but they won’t have side effects like weight gain and eps along sexual dysfunction…!!!

Maybe, maybe we have to wait decades for the gene research being done now to become useful. They’re really just making guesses when they try out new meds. Thats why we haven’t seen anything novel for half a century…so it seems with all mental illnesses as well. It’s a silent epidemic imo
It can be difficult to find a good psychiatrist. It can be even more difficult to recognize a good psychiatrist (or a bad one), as well. Something I have certainly found challenging, myself, throughout my life.
A good psychiatrist must walk a fine line between being thorough in their investigation in order to not unnecessarily medicate or over-medicate people, and then also doing what they can to persuade patients who really do need medication to take it.
Either way it goes, only psychiatrists with exceptional social/empathy skills are going to be able to come across well (which is something that most humans, not just psychiatrists, are not so good at it).
If the psychiatrist is approaching first from an angle of needing to be skeptical and thoroughly investigate before prescribing heavy duty medications, they can easily come across as invalidating or accusatory which can really intimidate or be emotionally hurtful to patients. Yet if the psychiatrist approaches a new patient in a way that is very passively agreeable with no critical analysis, then the psychiatrist will likely wind up over-medicating tons of people, which means tons of people with side effects that weren’t worth it. Then when the psychiatrist encounters someone who definitely does need medication, despite the side effects, the psychiatrist then has to figure out how to navigate the fine line between respecting and dignifying the patient as far informing the patient, while also not feeding into a patient’s overall paranoia and possibly scaring the patient away from needed medication.
I think it is simultaneously true that most psychiatrists don’t do a very good job, but also that it is very difficult to do a good job. So it’s not like psychiatrists are an inherently crappy group of people, but more the case that it’s just a very challenging job to do well.
Wise word …Appreciated…!!! until and unless they find out actual Gene that is culprit behind SZ…!!! it’s hard to predict cure…!!
its just like firing bullet in the wind(Air)…no specific target cuz they don’t know any genome behind this…!!!
The novel institute like broad institute programme like brain initiative are still striving to search for cure…
I hope next 15 to 20 years going to be very important to us for us…
Good night buddy aka @Esm…u have a good day i will have good night…! see ya my friend…!!!
It’s possible to lose weight on certain anti-psychotics. I lost 65 pounds while on resperidone.
You CAN die from schizophrenia. My 30 year old son did. He got delusional messages telling him that he had to die on a certain date in order to “save the world” from destruction. So, he killed himself, by strangulation, on that date. His paranoid schizophrenia killed him. Plain fact.
You MUST take your meds. You MUST report all of your symptoms to your pdoc. to save your life. I cannot emphasize that enough.
Yes you can lose weight even when on weight gaining meds like risperidone and Depakote.
I managed to lose quite a bit of weight in the past and I was on these meds.
For some reason lately I’m hungrier than usual and I can’t stop eating.
I’m going to mention this to my psychiatrist.
Don’t underestimate Sz I almost died from it so it is possible. Stay on your meds and stay safe. Unless you meds are causing health problems then you need a med switch.
