I picked up 3 movies from the library today.

  1. Selma
  2. Get On Up (the James Brown Story)
  3. Cadillac Records

I’m really excited about the first 2.

Anyone seen any of these yet?

I saw Get On up in theaters it was good although might be triggering for me if I watched it right now cuz of the drug use (there’s not too much but its there)

I remember at the end him being chased by the police and smoking a joint laced with crack lol. There were lots of joints in the movie I think in other parts too. But yeah James Brown was an addict and they definitely somewhat covered it

Holy crap! lol.

Yeah bless his soul, he definitely had his demons when it came to drugs.

One day I was sitting in an airport, and I was talking to this nice older lady about soul music. We both agreed on most of the soul greats, like Marvin Gaye, Al Green etc.

But when I brought up James Brown she got very serious, and just said “Oh…I don’t like him.”

I suppose Brown had a hard-time outliving his sort of bad/tough guy reputation.

Edit to add:
Personally I love James Brown and to me, he’ll always be the Godfather of Soul.
