Poor physical health care for the severe mentally ill is a serious issue. I am not sure what the situation is for cervical cancer screening of the SMI outside of the US.
I wonder how many people with SMI get put off going to the GP because their physical concerns get dismissed as “Due to you being mentally ill”.
Things like this contribute to lower life expectancy.
And it’s just hard to advocate for yourself when you’re dealing with so much other crap.
cervical cancer runs in my mom’s side of the family and so does breast cancer so I expect I will get it when i’m older. just about all my mom’s sisters had it even the ones who are mentally ill.
I bet they get their teeth cleaned less, too. No offense to anyone (like myself) who has not bothered with this procedure in some time, but I still think it’s true.
It is hard when you don’t have a traditional career with insurance to provide for your medical needs. I worked part time without insurance and didn’t have cervical cancer screenings from 2007 to 2016. It was almost 10 years of when I was supposed to be showing the OBGYN what my healthy levels look like.
This is a serious problem. The insurance crisis in our country kills. It might have killed me. We will know eventually. It’s like dying in a Shakespearean tragedy here!
The United States gladly kills people on a daily basis to turn a profit. Health insurance shouldn’t exist. No human being should have to pay for their health.
