On dialysis now. On list for transplant.
What psych med did you take?
Abilify injection and lithium
I’ve read Lithium can cause kidney damage.
Sorry to hear that, you’ll get your transplant, have hope.
How long have you been on the abilify injection ?
10-12 years maybe
Not exercising while on the meds prob was a bad idea too
edit: not enough cardio. I did lift weights from time to time
I should have tampered off the meds slowly. My onset of schizoprenia/bipolar had to do with moving to another state and coping with a bad surgery
All damage is done. Kidneys do not regenerate
I wouldn’t blame the Abilify
It’s most likely the lithium
How long have you been on lithium?
I’m sorry by the way
My mom has chronic kidney disease. She always worries about going on dialysis and getting a new kidney. She sees a kidney doctor and is on a diet for her kidneys. Lithium is a terrible drug. I am aware from my mom’s kidney doctor that you can do dialysis for life. My mom’s kidney nurse has had patients on dialysis for 28 years. It’s trickier taking the meds. Some meds you can’t take. There are some restrictions with the diet, fluids and such when on dialysis. Dialysis is suppose to make you feel better. People think dialysis makes them feel worse. Some people do get side effects if they do the dialysis too fast, the get disequilibrium syndrome. Sometimes when you have to wait a few days to get dialysis, like over a weekend, you might feel a little crappy, but the dialysis gets rid of all of the waste. My mom has talked to a kidney nurse and she’s had a few patients get a new kidney within 6 months. I think you have to be on dialysis for a year or 2, I could be wrong, before they put you on the transplant list, you have to request it and sometimes go through an organization. You can still live a long life with minimal suffering. It’s just the dialysis is usually 3 days a week for 3 to 4 hours. Have a good evening.
I missed the part where you said you’re already on dialysis. You can skip over what I wrote. sorry
Lithium is a scary drug. I’m so sorry! Are you ok?
I thought with lithium they need to test frequently to check if it’s messing with with your body.
