As an aside, I was trying to take acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) for my depression as an add-on to the antidepressant. And I noticed a recent study that says that in major depressive disorder (MDD) levels of ALC may be decreased.
Yet still, they are decreased as a mean value, in group comparison, while individual values in healthy persons may fall as low as in depressives.
So, no marker for depression yet in sight.
