anyone learning linux ?
I use Linux on a couple of my systems.
What do you do with them?
Two systems run my radio station automation. One is primary and one is standby. The automation software (RadioDJ) runs on Windows 7 in VMWare on the Debian Linux host. RadioDJ uses a MySQL database that is running on a Raspberry Pi4 with Raspberry Pi OS (Debian-based) and MariaDB. One of my laptops I write on has Linux Mint.
What kind of radio station?
I tried using Linux well over a decade ago. Dual boot. I’m not very technically minded, and the learning curve for Linux was much steeper than the one for Windows . I’m sure there are decent, helpful, Linux users. Unfortunately I sought help and met the complete opposite to that. That put me off . I wasn’t willing to risk further such treatment .
For the little time I did use it it was OK.
I use linux (ubuntu) exclusively on my desktop pc i prefer it to windows. Im not a big gamer though, most games wont work on linux. I like it, its much more secure than Windows and updates are a lot faster… plus its free.
Linux users are usually smart, deeply technical folk who focus on extreme device & network security. Very biased against windows or mac os, very against paid-for software, backers of open-source projects and possibly virgin or regretting their virgin youth. Set in their ways. With few exceptions, they expect you to understand advanced linux jargon right off the bat.
Edit: see the post above lol
It was the ‘you must be an idiot if you want help with x’ attitude that I found to be abhorrent and presumptuous. Not being a technical whizz kid doesn’t make a person dumb/stupid . Indeed someone thinking so wouldn’t be anywhere near the sharpest knife in the box themself.
I tried linux even used it. Only Fedora and Ubuntu. Mainly Fedora.
I wasn’t an enthusiast but had working knowledge or enough to get by for personal use.
Forums can be bad and people can be rude and elitists. I tried self learning and never did a course on it.
I never got into servers or running a server on Linux or even windows or even mac. I never got that far.
That sounds cool
Yeah they aren’t build for games
Yes it complicated but rewarding I think to learn
I want to start learning Linux I like the computer stuff and terminal
Are you good at command line?
Not really. I couldn’t get a job, but I can figure stuff out especially with google lol. I haven’t done it in years and struggle remembering the stuff.
I use windows now. I was thinking about getting a mac, but windows is best for video games. I’m poor anyways.
Don’t play video games , they are destructive better invest time in learning Linux. There are good books on learning Linux
I want to learn physics at least the overall concepts. That is more important to me right now haha.
Good luck learning Linux!
